Over the course of my life, I've often found a deeper connection to something, or someone, after they have been lost to me. I now feel compelled to share the experiences of discovering something precious in the absence of something, or someone, lost in life.
These blog posts will explore how we find our way through the pain or regret in what we lose, including the times when our life takes an unexpected detour, and we become lost on the path of life.
How might finding a deeper meaning in these experiences bring us comfort?
The idea for this blog first came to me after my best friend of nearly 40 years died from cancer. Shortly after her passing, I spent time at Wrightsville Beach, NC as I came to terms with my grief. There were so many things I wish I'd said to her before she was lost to me. And so I wrote a long letter to her with the intention of releasing it to the sea so that my words would be carried off to enternity.
What I discovered was a magical mailbox where people can post their thoughts - pouring out their hearts to the Universe. I found to be extremently comforting. There's so much more to this story, which I'll save for its own blog entry.
